The set contains more than 100 cards and introduced several memorable Pokémon-EX cards.

For collectors, Roaring Skies remains a notable expansion because of its iconic Pokémon, distinctive XY-era artwork, and sought-after Ultra Rare cards. For longtime Pokémon TCG fans, it also represents an important part of the game’s Mega Evolution era.

The expansion includes more than 100 cards, with , including 4 Mega Evolution Pokémon, as well as Trainer cards and Special Energy.

The set’s official card checklist runs through 108 numbered cards, with additional Ultra Rare cards bringing the complete set beyond the standard numbered cards.

Why Is Roaring Skies Popular With Collectors?

Roaring Skies has several features that make it particularly interesting to Pokémon TCG collectors. The expansion places Rayquaza at the center of its theme and includes the debut of Mega Rayquaza-EX. The official Pokémon description also highlights Pokémon such as Deoxys, Dragonite, Zekrom, Hydreigon-EX, and Thundurus-EX.

The set also contains multiple versions of important Pokémon-EX cards. This gives collectors more than one variation to search for when building a complete collection.

Mega Rayquaza-EX: A Major Highlight

Mega Rayquaza-EX is one of the defining cards from Roaring Skies.

The expansion contains multiple versions of Mega Rayquaza-EX. One version, numbered 61/108, is a Rare Holo EX featuring the Dragon Ascent attack, which can deal 300 damage while requiring two Energy to be discarded.

Another version, numbered 105/108, is an Ultra Rare card featuring the Emerald Break attack. Its attack deals 30 damage for each Pokémon on the player’s Bench.

This gives collectors several Rayquaza cards to look for rather than a single chase card.

What Cards Are in the Roaring Skies Set?

Roaring Skies has a broad selection of Pokémon, Trainer, and Energy cards.

The official Pokémon expansion description lists:

More than 100 new cards
11 new Pokémon-EX
4 new Mega Evolution Pokémon
9 new full-art Rare Ultra Pokémon-EX cards
17 Trainer cards
2 Rare Ultra Trainer cards
A new Special Energy card

The set also features Pokémon from the Hoenn region and has a strong focus on Dragon-type Pokémon and Rayquaza.

This variety makes the expansion appealing to both character-focused collectors and people who enjoy building complete sets.

Why Buy a Sealed Roaring Skies Booster Box?

A sealed booster box gives collectors the opportunity to open multiple packs from the same expansion. It can also be collected as a sealed Pokémon TCG product.

For someone who enjoys opening vintage or older Pokémon packs, Roaring Skies provides a connection to the XY era of the Pokémon TCG.

A sealed booster box may appeal to collectors who want to:

Open multiple Roaring Skies booster packs
Search for rare Pokémon-EX cards
Collect Mega Evolution cards
Look for full-art cards
Build an XY-era Pokémon collection
Keep a sealed Pokémon TCG product
Trade duplicate cards
Explore older Pokémon TCG sets

It is important to distinguish between collecting a sealed product and buying packs to find a particular card. Randomized booster packs do not guarantee a specific card.

If you need one particular card, purchasing that individual card is usually a more direct approach.

Roaring Skies and Mega Evolution

Roaring Skies arrived during the Pokémon TCG’s XY era, when Mega Evolution was an important part of the game.

The expansion introduced four new Mega Evolution Pokémon, with Mega Rayquaza-EX being the most prominent. Mega Latios-EX also appears among the set’s major Pokémon-EX.

The Mega Evolution cards are especially interesting to collectors because they represent an earlier generation of Pokémon TCG Mega cards.

For fans who collect Pokémon cards by era, Roaring Skies can therefore fill an important gap in an XY-series collection.

Is Roaring Skies a Good Set for Collectors?

Roaring Skies has a strong collector appeal because it combines several recognizable elements of the Pokémon franchise.

Rayquaza is one of the most recognizable Legendary Pokémon from the Hoenn region. The set also includes Mega Evolution cards, Pokémon-EX, full-art cards, and Trainer cards.

However, collectors should consider the condition of individual cards and sealed products carefully. Older Pokémon TCG products can vary significantly in condition depending on how they were stored.

When buying a sealed Roaring Skies product, inspect:

Factory sealing
Packaging condition
Box corners
Shrink wrap
Seller reputation
Product photographs
Language and edition
Return policy

For individual cards, condition is equally important. Centering, edges, corners, and surface condition can all affect collector interest.

How Should You Store Roaring Skies Cards?

Older Pokémon cards should be stored carefully, particularly if you want to preserve their condition.

Keep cards away from excessive humidity, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures. Use protective sleeves for individual cards and rigid holders for higher-value pieces.

Useful storage options include:

Penny sleeves
Premium card sleeves
Top loaders
Semi-rigid card holders
Trading card binders
Storage boxes

If you have a sealed Roaring Skies Booster Box, avoid placing heavy objects on top of it. Store it in a stable, dry environment where the packaging will not be crushed or exposed to moisture.

Roaring Skies Booster Box for Players

Although Roaring Skies is now an older expansion, its cards remain interesting from a historical gameplay perspective.

The set introduced cards such as Mega Rayquaza-EX, Mega Latios-EX, Shaymin-EX, and various Trainer cards that became part of the XY-era card pool.

The official Pokémon description specifically highlights Mega Turbo and Double Dragon Energy as new additions that brought additional tactics to the expansion.

For modern players, however, it is important to check current tournament legality before using older XY cards in competitive events. A card’s historical gameplay importance does not automatically mean it is legal in today’s Standard format.

What Makes the XY Era Special?

The XY era occupies an important place in Pokémon TCG history.

It introduced Mega Evolution into the card game and featured Pokémon from the Kalos generation alongside returning favorites from earlier regions. Roaring Skies expanded that experience by putting Rayquaza and other powerful Pokémon at the center of its design.

For collectors who enjoy older Pokémon products, this makes Roaring Skies more than just another booster set. It represents a specific period in the evolution of the Pokémon TCG.

Buying an XY—Roaring Skies Booster Box

Because Roaring Skies was originally released in 2015, sealed products are no longer comparable to brand-new contemporary expansions.

Availability can be limited, and prices can vary considerably between sellers.

Before purchasing, compare:

Sealed condition
Seller feedback
Product authenticity
Packaging quality
Shipping costs
Return terms
Current market prices

Be particularly careful with unusually cheap listings. Older Pokémon TCG products have significant collector demand, so a price that appears dramatically below the market can warrant additional verification.
